Welcome to the website of the Finchley and District Bowls Association. Here you will find the latest Prentice Cup league tables, how to contact our officers, the dates of the next association fixtures and meetings.
From the President
I am honoured to have been elected as the Association’s President for 2019, which will be my second year in the role.
The main objective of the Association is to provide opportunities to members of affiliated clubs to play bowls outside their normal club environment. This is achieved by the Association organising a wide range of competitions during the season, as well as friendly and inter-Association matches. Whilst the former were very well supported during 2018, once again the latter were not – and, for a variety of reasons, we only managed to play 3 of the 7 planned fixtures.
Despite this situation, we are putting together a programme of matches for the 2019 season, as well as continuing with the revised organisational and post-match changes we made last year; which were aimed at making the matches easier to support. My earnest hope is that all affiliated clubs will positively promote and support the Association’s activities and encourage their members to put their names forward to play in our matches. And for the first time this year, the Association is organising a Skills Day for members of affiliated clubs, which I also hope will be well supported.
The Association has an experienced and committed team of officers, and I anticipate that they will continue to support me in the coming year. The Association has been fully mixed for over two years, and I hope that the participation levels of lady members will continue to grow across all our competitions and matches.
It is traditional that the President chooses a charity to support during their year of in office, in the expectation that funds will be raised through Association activities to support their on-going activities. My chosen charity for 2019 is, once again, the North London Hospice, which provides hospice care to patients with life-limiting illnesses at centres in Finchley and Enfield. I know that you will want to support this excellent and local organisation through the year and through your participation in the Association’s various activities.
